THE OAXACA COAST HAS MANY LAGOONS, ONE OF THE most interesting for nature lovers and people wanting a daytrip from Puerto is Corralero. Note, this is not a place to swim, but there is no place like it for tranquility - except for Sundays when people from Pinotepa Nacional and further north come to enjoy family gatherings at its many palapa restaurants.
The lagoon includes many islands and peninsulas, and the visitor has the option of driving to the town of Corralero and taking a launch to an island featuring palapa restaurants, or you can make the turn of before you arrive at the town and drive to the Barra where the ocean enters the lagoon.
Corralero is around three hours from Puerto. From Pinotepa Nacional you take calle 5 Sur and keep driving. We went in April, and it helped that we rented a car with AC.
