La Punta Stops Illegal Construction
GUESS WHAT, THERE ARE BUILDING CODES IN OAXACA and Santa María Colotepec, and the residents of Brisas de Zicatela (the Punta) have banded together to see that they are enforced. This summer, following street protests, the Assembly of residents of Las Brisas voted yet again to demand that the municipio take action.
Buildings of more than two stories, plus a rooftop palapa, are not permitted. 25% of the lot must be for plants (área verde), and there has to be a sidewalk Thus, construction was stopped on the top level of a building on the corner of Av. Alejandro Cárdenas and Av. Brisas de Zicatela, and all construction was stopped on a beach front building on calle Querétero (next to El Bicho) which didn’t even have a building permit.
