Farmers Block Coastal Hwy 200 and PXM
ON MONDAY, AUGUST 18, 2025, FARMERS FROM Tututepec, the municipality that borders San Pedro Mixtepec, closed the highway in front of the Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM) and the entrance to the airport. They were protesting the lack of government resources promised them after Hurricane Erick destroyed their crops in June.

The airport was functioning on Monday; travelers could enter and leave through a gate at the far end of the runway. On Tuesday, all flights were cancelled. Meanwhile, community leaders and their representatives met with government officials in Oaxaca, and Tuesday afternoon the highway blockade was lifted, but there was still no access to the airport, not even from the back gate.
On Wednesday, everything was back to normal. For the record, this was not the first time the airport has been closed by protesters. Mexico City’s airport was closed for a short time by the teachers union in May.
