Highway Expansion Brings Down Internet
IT’S AN ENORMOUS PROJECT, WIDENING HIGHWAY 200 between Pochutla and Huatulco from two lanes to four. It’s already four lanes from Puerto Escondido to Pochutla. The road passes though mountains and has many dangerous curves. That’s the good news.
The bad news is that we get our TelMex internet from the hub in Pochutla which connects with Huatulco via highway 200 and Miahuatlán via highway 175. The construction has led to telephone poles carrying fiber optic cables being damaged after being hit by heavy machinery. The TelMex repair men sometimes cannot get through because the roadway is closed most of the day. So we often have no internet service for hours or it is very slow. The only alternative is Starlink.
If you need to go to Huatulco or to the airport, this is the schedule until December 31. There is a detour from Pochutla on a dirt road through the mountains.
