In case you missed it, we had a 5.7 earthquake on a nice Sunday afternoon, February 8, at 3:42 pm, to be exact. The epicenter was somewhere in the municipio of Santa María Colotepec. No damage done anywhere, except for some rocks falling on the highway to Oaxaca before you get to the Santa Martha tunnel on the Colotepec side. What was really cool was the rocking and the alert that came over our cell phones just as the rocking stopped. Good thing it was a Sunday, so no one was at school. In any case it was a topic of conversation for a day or two.
Then we got shaken again on February 23 at around 1:30 pm by a 4.6 quake 34 kms southeast of Puerto. No damage, and no cell phone alert.
Do you remember the big ocean swell that flooded the calle del Morro on Zicatela in 2015? It had completely slipped my mind. So I have reprinted the article. And also the one about the big tsunami that hit Puerto on March 28, 1787. Fortunately, no one lived in Puerto then.
Just to say, be prepared!
