Water Festival, 2026
FIVE YEARS AGO MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY, INCLUDING representatives of various organizations, got together to see how best to deal with the problems Puerto was facing with its rapid growth. There were different forums, and one concerned the pollution of some of the beaches due to the lack of a viable infrastructure for waste water coming from villages upstream and hotels on the beach.
Another water problem was (and is) the lack of clean water (agua potable) in many communities. These problems were well known, but not the possible solutions. So in 2023 we held the first Water Festival of Puerto Escondido on March 22, which is World Water Day.
For three years, the festival took place on that date in the Parque Idilio in the center of the city. This year it will take place at the Rotary Club, at the beginning of the Rinconada, on March 22, from 1 pm to 9 pm. The event will feature talks by experts, workshops, a market, an art show, and forums for teens, as well activities for children and lots of music.
